Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: The real question in the primary. Can Biden get 51% of the delegates? [View all]bluewater

Brokered convention:
In United States politics, a brokered convention (sometimes referred to as an open convention and closely related to a contested convention) can occur during a presidential election when a political party fails to choose a nominee on the first round of delegate voting at the party's nominating convention.

Just yesterday people were telling me I was crazy for thinking it could very well happen this year.
To be clear, I really do think it is likely that no candidate will earn enough delegates in the primaries to win independently on the first ballot. Some deals might be cut ON the first ballot for delegates, but to my mind that is still a brokered convention and has not happened in ages. I believe the last one was in 1952 or 1948.
Also, if a candidate comes into the convention leading with a plurality of at least 36%, the Super Delegates, who make up about 15% of the delegate total, are allowed to vote on the second ballot and can put such a candidate over the top. No deals would need to be made between campaigns.
If the leading candidate has less than a 36% plurality of delegates, than even getting all the Super Delegates would not be enough and things get interesting.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

In the end, I think the ratio between Biden votes and Sanders votes will be something like

The Guardian is NOT objective, and has been extremely ant-Biden and pro Sanders

I may not agree 100% with the article, but there are plenty of truths in it which must be considered

He's got an outside chance of doing so. If things remain the same he'll get ALL of the delegates in:

There are far fewer caucuses this cycle and the 15% rule will help Biden a great deal
