(96 posts)Our political system might be better off if they did. Our constitution does not forbid to have more than two parties in congress. In fact the constitution is silent on the subject of parties. It seems that if more than two parties were represented in Congress, none having a majority, there would be more room for meaningful discussion and compromise: hence less room for fighting as it seems to be now. Our two party system is certainly not good for our nation. It's like driving a car by alternately slamming on the gas and then on the brakes. The engine suffers, the brakes suffer, the gas mileage suffers. What's more the ride becomes very uncomfortable after a possible initial bliss of sheer silliness.
