(90,208 posts)Well win the (primary) battle but lose the (general election) war. For exactly the reason you state, brush. trumps already started it - a tweet weeks ago referring to socialist/communist - blurring the two concepts so its just about these foreign ists that were all taught to dread from the get-go: communist, socialist, fascist, collectivist, Leninist, Stalinist, the works.
Few in the general electorate know or understand any of those labels. All they know is its all negative and off-putting and somehow or other, NOT American. Those are all bad words, scary concepts, and anyone who embraces them doesnt really have red-white-&-blue Yankee-Doodle blood coursing through their veins. Thats the simplistic, either/or, black-n-white, either/or, good vs evil mindset at work from that side of the divide.
Democrats, liberals, progressives - always operate from a different mindset - one that acknowledges the practical reality of many shades of gray, not mere rigid black or white mentality.
Just something Ive discerned in my 50-some-odd years of watching politics and human behavioral reflexes.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
