(128,150 posts)I know too many students that graduated with mediocre grades and majors that aren't marketable. I expect that there aren't many job openings for people with degrees in Latin or French in Florida as an example.
When I worked with the state, I encountered someone with a MBA in marketing who could not design a simple survey form. Every response to the form she designed would have required paragraphs as an answer. The survey was going to be sent to hundreds of clients. How does someone compile all of those responses and summarize them in a meaningful manner? Does that employee deserve a guaranteed salary when she didn't learn what should be expected from someone with that degree?
I regret that there are people that racked up large student loans, but it's also important that students are practical and acquire skills that are useful outside academia. Receiving a college degree should mean more than receiving a participation trophy.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
