(43,891 posts)In a post on another forum, said Bernie bro was trying to build the case that a moderate can't win a general election, and used Al Gore, John Kerry, and Hillary Clinton as proof.
He shrugged off Gore and Clinton's popular vote wins. He shrugged off voter suppression, aid from a foreign government, and a one-off SCOTUS decision that he wasn't really aware of though he tried to fake it after I reminded him. He also shrugged off Barack Obama's two wins.
I asked why he chose 2000 as the starting point for his theory, and not election years prior. He didn't know why I was referencing that year. When I told him 2000 was the year Al Gore ran, he told me Gore wasn't the best candidate that year and that Howard Dean was.
Then in a stellar display of his political prowess, he told me Michael Dukakis lost to Reagan in 1984 and that the election of W. Bush was the first election that Republicans appealed to the racist south.
Right as I bailed from the conversation, he told me I need to check my facts.
