In reply to the discussion: sanders is on record calling for Social Security cuts [View all]TiberiusB
(526 posts)You have to notice that the debate has shifted from "Biden never called for cuts to SS" to "but Bernie is no better." So we all agree that "adjustments" means "cuts", then? No? Notice, too, the vitriol aimed at AOC, who opined about Biden's history of calling for spending freezes affecting SS which are captured on video and on the Internet, as she said. That gets ignored and they pretend she was only referring to the "adjustments" quote. I'm actually for Warren, and I'll support whoever gets the nom, but Biden is far from a saint on a number of political issues, which you'd never guess from these forums. There's plenty of evidence that Bill Clinton and Obama were both prepared to potentially agree to SS cuts, such as the COLA changes (chained CPI). Dems are far too quick to fall prey to the "fiscal responsibility" canard and go on defense on issues like this. This isn't a pat on the back for Bernie. He needlessly provokes these confrontations and increasingly looks desperate and ill prepared.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
