Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: I'm hearing that lots of Bernie supporters might not vote for another candidate in the general. [View all]DanTex
(20,709 posts)The "meta-point" of this post, if you will, is the double standard I see. Anti-Bernie people will post articles even from conservatives like Jennifer Rubin or Bill Kristol or whatever talking about all the centrists who would vote Biden but not Bernie, in support of Biden's electability.
At the same time anti-Bernie people also post links to polls suggesting that a substantial number of Bernie primary supporters wouldn't vote for Biden or other centrist candidates in the general election. The idea is to paint Bernie supporters as "disloyal".
The problem I have is the double standard. If we're celebrating the Jennifer Rubin type conservatives that would vote Biden but not Bernie as a plus for Biden, then logically we should celebrate the "Bernie or Bust" (for lack of a better term) people as a plus for Bernie. Or, conversely, if we're going to shun the "Bernie or Bust" voters as disloyal, then we should also shun the centrists that would go for Biden but not a progressive like Bernie or Warren.
I would ask you, when people post those articles about centrists crossing over for Bernie, would you object to them about why they didn't also include the "nobody but Bernie" scenario, the way you did to this post?
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
