Democratic Primaries
Showing Original Post only (View all)Why the attacks on Bernie aren't working. [View all]
Bernie's not the kind of politician who follows the winds of public opinion, and everyone knows this. In fact, that's why his haters hate him. The centrist lobbying groups like Third Way, the Never Trump GOPs, these people don't want a progressive agenda. Here's what they like:
1) Politicians that want to cut social programs like Social Security.
2) Politicians who (say they) don't want to cut social programs, but can be pressured by moneyed lobbying to buckle.
Bernie's the opposite of both. Bernie's supporters know that, and his opponents do too.
The other problem anti-Bernie centrists have is that they know Bernie's progressive agenda is hugely popular. If they were honest, they'd just attack Bernie by saying "Bernie is against social security cuts, but we think social security needs to be cut, here's why." Good luck with that.
So what do they do? They try to find some grainy video from the 80s and cut it out of context. Like that one where Bernie supposedly opposes single payer. LOL. Do they think anyone on this planet is going to believe that in the 80s, when Bernie was even more socialist than today, he went through like an "austerity phase"? Of course not! If you actually watch that video, not just the one sentence taken out of context, you see clearly that Bernie was actually in favor of, not against single payer in it.
Obviously. We all knew, even before we watched the video, that it was bullshit.
So here's a tip for the centrist anti-Bernie tweeters. You are never going to convince a living soul that Bernie is wishy-washy on his progressive principles. It's just not going to work. Try something else. Make an honest case for centrism. And if you can't do that, then I guess complain about Bernie Bros.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
