(151,681 posts)I no longer have much reason to go to NYC. I used to have to go there a couple of times a year, because one of the magazines I wrote for was located there, and there were trade shows I had to make an appearance at.
I'd fly in, take a cab to the Empire Hotel on the Upper West Side, buy a three day subway pass, and spend most of my time riding trains here and there to parts of the city I hadn't seen before. I even went to Coney Island once, but that was a long-assed ride, so i never went back.
I'm not much for trade shows or meetings at my editor's office, so I used my time to explore as much as I could. On one trip, though, I did the Manhattan north to south walk, Now, it was really interesting to walk the entire 14-mile length of the city. I was a lot younger then, though. I couldn't do it now.
