(1,115 posts)In 1980, he was listed on the Vermont STATEWIDE BALLOT as an Elector for the Socialist Workers Party Presidential candidate.
The SWP is a Communist Party which is where the group that was thrown out of the Communist League of America (later, Communist Party United States of America) for supporting Trotsky over Stalin ended up calling themselves.
Bernie Sanders was an ACTUAL COMMUNIST on the Vermont ballot in 1980 at the age of 39. The candidate for whom he was running as an elector sided with Iran during the hostage crisis and sided with the Soviet Union throughout the Cold War.
If you choose to complain about this and claim Sanders was not "really" a Communist then, you have no grounds to stand upon to claim he is a Democrat today.
Look it up. This is real Bernie Sanders baggage that is not widely known, especially among his supporters.
