187. Socialism is merely a label that means different things to different people

Hitler's Nazi party labeled itself the National Socialist German Workers' Party. Thanks to Joe McCarthy and the Republicans, "Socialism" was defined as communism lite. You have to read Marx and Engels and the early founders of the labor movement to understand classic socialism. Suffice it to say that public services paid with citizen tax $$$ are socialism. The fire and police dept, interstate highway, city streets and street lights, public schools and colleges, public housing, county hospital are all socialism. But Republicans want to privatize everything. Is it any wonder that in Trump's SOTU, he called public schools "government schools?"

Yes Republicans are going to call us pinkos and socialists. So what? It's up to us to educate people with the truth.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
