If you want to know whether people will vote for Bernie Sanders, you have to ask them if they will vote for Bernie Sanders. Asking them if they'd vote for "a socialist" doesn't return accurate results.

Agreed 100%. Once Iowa and NH are over and on to more diverse primaries Sanders' polling will fall.
