(25,406 posts)He's been derided as a nanny-stater and as a gun grabber. That won't play too well in the blue wall states we lost in 2016.
If it comes down to "our NYC billionaire is better than your NYC billionaire", we just might well lose that argument. Don't get me wrong, I still think that Buttigieg and Klobuchar are viable candidates, but we have to see where they go in Nevada before handicapping their chances in South Carolina.
Steyer's made a play for the farm vote in SC, one of his ads features a white farmer who wants somebody who will beat Trump. If indeed, there are people in rural communities who felt burned by Trump's game of "chicken" on Chinese trade, they may warm up to a man who has worked with California farmers to get nutritious food to schoolchildren there without involving Big Agriculture.
