77. I do not have union benefits, but I have corporate health care...

Feb 2020

My diabetes has been progressively getting worse for years (I have really bad numbers and cannot get on top of them without essentially resorting to extreme dietary restrictions that I find impossible to maintain long term), one of the treatments that was actually helping my A1C and Glucose levels was coupling a long-release insulin (Tresiba) with Bolus fast-acting insulin (Humalog) taken at meals.

I was denied coverage for Tresiba three times, including two denied appeals from my doctor (a board certified expert in endocrinology), and told that the Tresiba is a plan exclusion and also unnecessary treatment. They over-ruled my doctor and ignored my actual results because the do not have a deal with the manufacturer of Tresiba to offer the coverage that would help me...to remain on the treatment would run me nearly $1,200 every 3 months and would be 100% uncovered. It may also void some other plan provisions written into the fine print that could lead to denial of coverage for covered medications when using non-covered exclusions...so if I choose to stay on the Tresiba, they retain the right to then drop my other covered options.

I am about to be placed on an insulin pump in the next few days in a last ditch effort to control my diabetes and allow me to basically survive beyond the next 5 years. Even with insurance, this is an unbudgeted $2,500 out of pocket hit that is going to be due in the next 60 days - or I have offered a payment plan option that elevates the total cost above $3,500 to me, but spreads it our over 3 years of monthly payments...which does NOT include the out of pocket cost of the supplies and insulin until I reach $5,000 annual out of pocket costs...

If I hear ANYONE else talk about how fucking great corporate or union provided insurance is, I am going to lose my fucking mind.

INSURANCE of ANY KIND that is FOR PROFIT does not care about YOU...in fact, it WANTS you DEAD as soon as possible to save those precious $$$$'s. They DO NOT MAKE MONEY providing care...that is a DEBIT on their expense sheet....you are not assets to them, you are a liability to be removed ASAP. A comprehensive solution, regardless of the route to get there, MUST be the goal. My rage and depression continues to grow daily in this failing shithole country of ours and I fear what I may be motivated to do if I become terminal...this is no way to live, its more like a nightmare than a dream...

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
