12. I'm pretty sure this country doesn't actually have an official language.

Although it is very helpful that there is one language that is the main one used.

Which is not to say that other languages shouldn't be honored and respected. But it helps a lot if most things are in one language. Yes, translations should be provided.

And at the risk of being slammed, I don't think that ballots for voting should be in any other language than English. If you become a citizen, don't you have to pass some kind of English proficiency exam? And if you were born here, you sure as hell should be fluent in English.

I live in Santa Fe, NM. I hear Spanish all the time, and I regret that my Spanish skills are so limited. It's mildly annoying that I cannot understand the cleaning ladies when they chat with each other in Spanish. But that's my problem.

I love exercising my limited foreign language skills. I occasionally come across French speakers (my best other language) and just love speaking to them in French. I have a close friend who is multi lingual, and when he visited me recently every time I turned around he was speaking to someone in another language: Italian, German, Bahasa Malay, among others. And this was in New Mexico. So don't accuse me of being a monolingual who demands that everyone else speak English. I'm only sorry my own other language skills are so limited.

I honestly feel sorry for the very many here who only speak English. Someone once described Americans as "world class mono-linguists" and alas, that's all too true.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
