160. I'm sure that I was.

Feb 2020

I was there with a West German family friend who was living in Berlin, though not from there. Because of that, we (to be exact, she) could not go through Checkpoint Charlie. Instead we went through Friedrichstrasse, which had different areas for foreigners and West Germans.

The friend taught at the Berlin Free University at the time, so I'm sure that we were followed. Also, there were some very creepy moments for me crossing the train from West to East Germany on the train. I was wearing glasses to read, and the man checking passports to enter the East barked something to me in German that I couldn't understand. A woman across from me reached over and grabbed the glasses off my face, then apologized later for the action. I don't know how close I was to being hauled off the train, but the woman was very relieved afterwards.

Glasnost or not, I'm sure that the Russians were putting on the ritz for important foreign visitors.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
