(131,480 posts)that if he's elected he will give them whatever his version of medicare for all is (plus free college), and that's a promise he can't keep - because doing that is not within the powers of a president. If he was promising that he would support those goals and that he would do everything he could to promote such legislation and get Congress to pass it, fine. If he was also talking about electing representatives and senators who would be in favor of those goals and would offer bills in the House and vote for them in the Senate so he could sign them into law, great. But that's not what he's doing. He's telling voters that he's going to do it, but he doesn't tell them the truth, which is that he can't do it without Congress. And as things stand right now, Congress isn't gonna do it.
