In the last ten years there's been a breakdown in the system due to unlimited campaign spending and loss of transparency with donations, along with gerrymandering, creating political extremes. Many elected officials chose keeping their jobs over sticking up for their principles. Unless you know what you're willing to lose for, don't run. There must be a functioning Congress and court system that is a co-equal branch of government to check growing executive powers. There is half-baked nationalism and phony populism. We need health care, affordable education, a fair tax system, infrastructure. We need to talk to each other to bridge our differences. He mentions Upton, who was in the audience, as an example of bipartisanship.
