Democratic Primaries

(22 posts)I am honestly a little tired of everyone stating with such confidence what WILL happen in a general election if Bernie is the nominee, or if Biden is the nominee, or if Warren or Pete are the nominees.......NONE of us KNOW what WILL happen. We KNOW what we THINK will happen, but none of us KNOW.
That is the secret to choosing a candidate. I am old enough(56)to remember in 1980 when everyone was salivating at a chance to run against Ronald Reagan......we got our wish, and got our asses handed to us. In the last election, there is no way Hillary should have lost to tRump, she is FAR smarter, FAR more "likable", and FAR better equipped based on experience and knowledge of government to handle the job of president. Again, got our asses handed to us.
I have been a student of and followed politics since I was a kid, I remember Humphrey and McGovern running against Nixon. I remember the racial dog whistles employed by George Wallace, the "southern strategy", the announcing of Reagan's run in Philadelphia, Mississippi.
Never underestimate the idiocy of the American electorate, they ALWAYS vote against their own self interest.........we have been programmed over the years to believe the line of bullshit we have been fed by the plutocrats and oligarchs that run this country. You must settle for baby steps, you must not rock the boat, the wealth will trickle down, we can't afford health care for all.......socialism will destroy the country(although, the postal service, road commission, police, fire departments and military have been going strong since this country has been a country). Socialism for the wealthy is alive and well in the form of subsidies for Walmart workers so the Walton's can become richer, tax havens for the rich, a cap on social security taxes, and lower taxes on capital gains than income earned through labor. The poor haven't had a raise in 50 years, all the while the wealthy are milking the system dry.
As George Carlin said, "There is a big club that runs this country, and you ain't in it"......none of us are. It's time we stop buying the line of bullshit we're being fed by our overlords and start voting for the things we want our government to do. If we keep negotiating with ourselves and settling for incrementalism, we will never see progress. FDR had one of the most successful presidency's in this country's history, the New Deal saved the country and was the most successful social movement the nation has EVER seen. It is the "good old days" the right wingers long for, they just fail to understand what brought them to fruition.
Stop being so goddamned scared of everything, strap a set on.......and vote for the person you believe will make the changes we want to see. Choosing another middle of the road candidate will just get us more of the same old middle of the road bullshit, nothing will change.
Everyone is afraid of another 4 years of tRump, but the last thing we need to do is run another mediocre candidate against him.....time to step up and make some changes. This is the opportunity we have been waiting for, time to turn this ship around.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
