(32,640 posts)And it took way longer than 2 years to get where they are now, starting from scratch, from people having NOTHING, and when medicine was far less expensive because we didn't have all the technology we have, and expanding incrementally to keep costs down, rather than slashing costs.
They were also not dealing with a very conservative SCOTUS that struck down the mandates for states to participate in Medicaid expansion, and will certainly rule in favor of the same for participation in the expansion of Medicare.
If you think that it can all be run at the federal level, you are not looking at the way Canada does it - they administer it like Medicaid.
Bernie doesn't talk about any of that, does he?
Let alone fact that the state with the political will to send him to the Senate didn't have the stomach for the increase in taxes that were proposed. In fact, he gets rather testy with anyone who asks him about any lessons that could be learned from the failure of Green Mountain Care. That shows me that he has no interest in, or is not really capable of understanding the possible obstacles in the implementation of single payer in action in the US.
