And it could work to our detriment. Say, for example, that our nominee starts dominating in the polls. People like to vote for a winner and a lot of people wait until the last minute to decide, so moderate Rs (they do exist) and Is could re-register in significant numbers late in the process and help our candidate in November.

It really works both ways. Of course, conventional wisdom is that the Rs are more likely to do it for nefarious purposes, but I don't know how we'd ever be able to determine intent.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
