In reply to the discussion: All of this Sanders dread is astounding to me [View all]NNadir
(37,073 posts)Basically, there's a lot of ego flying around in this country, none of it for good.
We see it in the MAGA crowd, and we see it on the opposite end of the political spectrum as well, the "I'M RIGHT," Bernie or Bust crowd.
The strong reaction here shows this emotional nature of the assertion among his acolytes that everyone has to agree that Bernie Sanders is a great guy, the best, and only he can save the country. It's just more MAGA.
It offends many of us. It certainly offends me.
Do we really need yet another Baby Boomer, another tired old fool who has not had an original thought since 1969 who just wants mindless uncritical praise, but has nothing to offer beyond that?
I'm a scientist. Among other things, a powerful concern for me is climate change. If Bernie Sanders gets into the White House - it won't happen but if he did - his intellectual inflexibility and dogmatic approach to the problem will make things worse, not better. This is not to say that there are not people who actually believe that he gives a shit about climate change, but frankly, they're incredibly ignorant.
Guess what? The embrace of 1970's ideology on so called "renewable energy" and hatred of nuclear energy has killed people and led to a planet where the concentration of the dangerous fossil fuel waste has reached 414 ppm. In February 1976 it was 333 ppm.
Guess what? Senator Sanders represents the only state in the Union where 100% of the electricity produced in this state was produced without burning fossil fuels. Guess what? Now it relies on dangerous fossil fuels. Bernie Sanders supported and advocated for that outcome.
What he says about addressing climate change hasn't worked, isn't working and won't work.
The Sanders crowd likes to pick out what people said 40 years ago and rant insanely on the subject. I feel differently. I think in a changing world, one has to change one's mind based on evidence. Elizabeth Warren has done that.
If you'd like to demonstrate one piece of evidence that Bernie Sanders has changed his mind on anything at all in his entire ideologically driven life, produce it now and let it stand up to critical examination.
Anyone who can show that this can be done, showing an instance where Bernie Sanders has changed his mind on anything in the last half a century of his life of continuous complaint without a single meaningful accomplishment, will have shown at least one instance wherein he is not Trump of the left.
Otherwise, he's running against Richard Nixon in 1972. Under these circumstances, our country, already badly wounded, will have no hope.
Got it?
No?
Why am I not surprised?
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
