In reply to the discussion: Cuba Has Not Been A Bad Neighbor Or a Threat To the US -- Ever. There Is No Cuban Taint. [View all]blue-wave
(5,493 posts)There is no quarrel with vast majority of people in Cuba or the country itself. It's their recent leaders (the last 60 years or so) that are a problem. And yes, Cuba WAS an imminent threat to the United States during the Cuban missile crisis.
Even if Bernie wants everyone to accept his supposition that Castro's um, ahem..."education program" was good and not an attempt to indoctrinate a whole class of poor people into communist ideology, it's not working with very many Americans, especially Cuban Americans. You know, the Cuban people who you claim to know so well.
I can't accept the "Well, Castro did some good too" argument. He was a brutal totalitarian dictator. He imprisoned, murdered, tortured thousands of human beings. I can't help but believe the Bernie crowd is using this issue as an attempt to make communism appear a good thing.
Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Castro (to name a few) were not altruistic individuals. Just the four named were responsible for millions of deaths and a countless amount of human misery. My God!!!! We are talking about genocide!!! How can we hold any of these people up and glorify them or their policies?
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
