(58,785 posts)Our biggest potential problem is that, because healthcare is as good as it is, our number of hospital beds has been decreasing even as population grows. Because of modern healthcare advances, more patients don't NEED admission at all or admission for as long as we used to.
That means we now only have about 1 million hospital beds for 300 million people, and the majority are occupied. But before you leap on that, NO system creates millions of empty beds in case an epidemic someday appears.
And all nations that have tried socialism, both failed nations and those struggling along in poverty, DO have really shitty healthcare systems. They can't begin to compare.
Maybe read up about Russia's and China's healthcare; after 70 years of socialism they should both be healthcare paradises, right? Or how about Venezuela's or Nicaragua's? At least these people are getting hospital care, which puts them way ahead of a lot of their fellow citizens.
