In reply to the discussion: I don't understand the Sanders' surrogates "post-Pete-dropout" strategy [View all]Progressive2020
(713 posts)I have heard that Bernie's leftism has some appeal to some working class voters in the Mid West that might have voted for Trump in 2016. Certainly not all, but maybe some of the Independents in that demographic might go for Medicare For All, Free College, and $15 Dollar Minimum Wage. I think that some pundits miss that.
Michael Moore, whether you like him or not, was one of the few people who predicted a Trump win in 2016. And that is because Moore knows working class people in the Mid West, who were tired of the same old politics that does not deliver anything to them. Some of these people believed Trumps lies that he was a populist, and voted for him in 2016.
I would imagine that some of those voters might now be disgruntled and realized that Trump did nothing for them. So, perhaps there is an argument that a lefty candidate like Sanders might be able to get some of those voters, especially in states like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. So, the argument that Sanders can't get some Independents might be debatable. There are still working class, union oriented people who are not turned off by leftism out there, I think.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
