(25,139 posts)I have no problem with immigrants, but in a capitalist society large in-migration is used to depress wages and create an underclass of highly exploited workers. Regulating immigration is one tool to regulate labor markets to keep wages and working conditions acceptable overall.
Illegal immigration makes this worse, so I'd support raising the legal limits.
Until the economic and political situation in Mexico and Central America improves, there will always be pressure to migrate to the USA. Focusing on economic development and improving governance (less crime and corruption) would help here. Nobody should be compelled to leave their homeland due to poverty or fear of violence.
Immigration is an administrative issue. Immigrants (even ones without legal status) should not be treated as criminals. The focus should be on employers using immigration status to treat employees poorly. Employers do not have the right to hire the cheapest possible labor regardless of the consequences.
