(545 posts)I DO get why you voted for Sanders. I am a 66-year-old Boomer but I'm also a Sanders person. Actually, I live in a Caucus State and voted early, so I got to pick candidates in the order that I wanted them. Warren was first but Bernie was next. I get it, though. I grew up in a lower-middle-class family. My dad was able to raise 6 girls on his salary. And he didn't go to college, either. My mother got an occasional job when things got tight, just to make ends meet. My sisters and I didn't frivolous things and at Christmas, we got necessities, like new underwear or a new nightgown. We always had a roof over our heads and enough food to eat. I went to college while living at home and became a nurse. Also, college was a LOT cheaper back then and I didn't have to take out loans to get through school. I probably earned enough money in my first year after graduating to equal the amount I paid in books and tuition for my entire 4 years of college. After working as a nurse for about 10 or 12 years, I was in the right place at the right time and my employer sent me to nurse practitioner school, before a master's degree became required. I was able to stash enough money away for retirement, so that I wouldn't have to work for the rest of my life. Most people don't have the same opportunities that were afforded to me, so people can't do that anymore. Like you say, people are working 2 and 3 jobs and don't have healthcare. They can't afford college and if they do go, they are strapped with thousands of dollars of debt. I am retired now and made enough money that I have a nice little income.
I tell you all this, because I DO understand you. I never forgot where I came from and know that things have gone terribly wrong in this country when others can't achieve the same things in life that I have. The corporate establishment has forgotten most of us.
I hope Bernie wins by a mile so there is no dispute over who gets the nomination. If it is close and the superdelegates get to chose it will tear this party apart because we know they are going to chose Biden. Nothing against Biden, he's just from a different time. Every time, the party picks our nominee, we get a Republican president. That being said, I will vote for whoever gets the nomination... but I don't think a lot of other people feel that way.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
