(2,657 posts)One of the things that killed us in 2016 was the Black voters who showed up in 2008 and 2012 for Obama but did not show up for Hillary in 2016. However, this year, Black voters seem to see Biden as Obama continued. This is why they are showing up for Biden--because Biden did everything he could for eight years to see that Obama's initiatives were passed. No person on this planet worked harder to help Barack Obama's Presidency than Joe Biden. Black people know this, and Super Tuesday showed us that they know this.
Someone posted a video, yesterday I think, with Joy Reid of MSNBC talking about how, when Joe Biden was in the church where the Civil Rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge started, that this was Joe Biden's church. They treated Joe Biden like he was Barack in that church because he represented Barack to them. Joy Reid was in that church when Joe Biden was there, and she said when she saw how Joe Biden was treated there, she knew that he would sweep the South. All of the major Democratic candidates were there in Selma that day except Bernie Sanders--who for some reason did not show up.
Joe Biden would have walked through fire for Barack Obama. Obama knows it, Jim Clyburn knows it, and practically every Black person in America knows it. This is why we are going to beat Trump in November, because for decades as a U.S. Senator, Joe Biden worked to help the 21% of the population of Delaware that is Black, and for eight years he worked to help Barack Obama. Joe Biden will make sure that Black Americans show up in November because to them, Joe Biden is not some promise that may or may not come true. To them, Joe Biden is the guy, year after year, who has fought for Black America.
Finally, for Joe Biden, the single most important part of his campaign since it began has been built around three words: "Black Votes Matter". This is why the pundits for months called South Carolina "Joe Biden's Firewall". It was the hill that Joe Biden would live or die on. It was the hill that he spent his entire lifetime getting ready for.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
