(58,785 posts)the same thing, which we are not. I see your last point and shared it when I felt was being pawed inappropriately, but at my age that isn't happening anymore. And when I was younger I actually don't think I was pawed in public, as opposed to in private, ever, but hugs could be stronger and longer than appropriate.
But at any age I was NOT talking about when men take offensive "liberties" and "paw" women, but where men behave according to accepted societal norms.
A male acquaintance I probably see 2-3 times a year hugged me a brief, cheerful hello on meeting again 3 days ago and a cheerful goodbye yesterday. Entirely appropriate here in the deep south. I can fully understand someone disliking being touched, I've often not. But I would regard even that someone badmouthing his hug to others as taking "liberties" and "pawing" as a very not-nice injustice to a good man.
Yes, I am calling for some self discipline, judgment and minimal generosity of spirit here. On the scale of bad things humans experience, a good-natured squeeze of the shoulders should rank extremely low.
