It's not 'rich' or hypocritical of Sanders to claim that plutocratic billionaires have too much influence in the American democracy, and should be taxed at a higher rate. In fact, the fact that he's a (barely) millionaire himself gives him street cred for his views.
He's not a trust fund brat, nor is he a robber baron. He's been a politician, with a professional class salary since he was in his 30s, and his wife is also a professional. Politicians generally vote themselves a salary in the lower six figure range, and educators' salaries run somewhere between five and six figures.
That articles says the Sanders family is worth 2.5 million, and that 1.7 million of it was from his last three BOOKS. That means that he and his wife, after FORTY YEARS of earning professional class salaries, were only worth a net $800,000. Realistically, that's EXTREMELY low.
I'd say Sanders is probably in the bottom 20% wealth category of the United States Senators.
And even if he weren't, what's the point of Peterson-Withorn's argument? The fact that he's a millionaire only increases the notion that he's arguing on principle, rather than on shallow self interests.
Personally, I give Democratic voters FAR more credit for their intelligence than the right wing noise machine is. If they think that Democratic voters will turn against Bernie's criticism of millionaires because he IS a millionaire, they're in for a rude awakening.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
