In reply to the discussion: How Bernie Sanders, The Socialist Senator, Amassed A $2.5 Million Fortune [View all]Me.
(35,454 posts)I might've thought so but then I started looking into his finances. He portrays, or at least gives off an image, of humbleness. After all, he slept on people's couches for years, stole electricity from his neighbor yadda, yadda, yadda. So I was surprised to find out that he and Jane have been taking in over 30k a month. $14, 500/month Senate salary, $3,825.00/month social security, her SS, plus medical. There was also her salary from Burlington at $160,000/year...$13,333/month. The sale of all his books didn't take in more than $300,00. So that begs the question of where the millions came from. Now they might've been very frugal and it could be they saved, invested so on and so forth. Also, Senators are given approx. 3mil a year for salaries, travel, office expenditures etc, so that wasn't a cost to him. He's sitting very pretty. So I suspect that after dunning HRC for her money he's embarrassed. I wish she had owned up to the fees she collected. Just as I think he's entitled to what life brings him, if it comes honestly, so is she. I am reminded also, that after all the legal fees they had to pay, they were broke and needed cash. Also, the Clinton Foundation has an excellent rating from Charity Watch which means they aren't/weren't skimming off the top claiming administrative costs.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
