This not some campus clique of Marxists, not some five hundred strong convention' of the Socialist Workers Party. In those sorts of things, platforms and manifestos do matter, because they show who is in and who is out within the group.
The platform of a major national party is today a meaningless document. It neither directs nor binds actions during a campaign, or when in office.
The man betrays an unerring instinct for the capillary in taking planks of the platform as he chief object at any stage of a political campaign.
