(59,498 posts)Then they ignore that point and say women start out 13 points behind. In fact, most of the Republicans will vote for the Republican, no matter what gender the Democratic nominee is.
So, the question comes down to needing more information than given. Were Democrats who said they were more comfortable with men asked if and who they voted for in the 2016 general election or who they would vote for between a Democratic woman and Trump. They might still, however reluctantly, be for the Democrat.
The same goes for Independents.
Only knowing that additional information would tell you if there would be a real difference just dependent on gender. Note, this is 180 degrees from the pre 2016 punditry that HRC would put college educated Republican women as likely HRC voters.
