In reply to the discussion: Which play it safe candidate has gone on to win the GE? [View all]
I think this is really important to understand, because we need to make sure we don't -- that strategically as a party that we don't come to be viewed as the defenders of a system that is letting people down. And we wouldn't be here if the economic and political system hadn't failed people ...
The system needs to be changed profoundly. I guess that's my point. We can't just nibble around the edges and expect people to be happy with us. Now, I've got a slightly different account than my competitors do about how best to do it, but the fundamental lesson is that our economic and political system has been letting people down I would say for my entire lifetime.
- Pete Buttigieg
An off the cuff answer, saying it better than speech writers. Politicians watched the heartland rust and did little. Pockets of misery disfigure the nation.
It Pete or Elizabeth. The question is, can they get there?

Ok. Gotcha. And I fully agree with your point that the establishment Democratic choice loses.

We were coming out of a major recession and GDP grew by 4.6% in 83 and 7.2% in 1984.

Exactly. Respectfully, that's why the comparison to Reagan falls apart.

Sure, but Biden backers have also dismissed every argument based on Trump being unique
