I believe that is what JD Vance said, in effect, when asked about this yesterday afternoon (I don't have the clip handy though).

And that's the problem - as with less well-documented cases in Texas, when they go to court, the rethugs point to the doctors for the fault. But the doctors and hospitals hold that the laws are so vague that their impact is to terrorize the providers in the situation. A very popular Republic tactic, also used around LGBTQ issues in schools and libraries, and elsewhere -- but with less devastating consequences.
