... I can attest to the fact that as a nation, Finns loathe Russia. It's a hatred that goes back to Tsarist times, when Finland was a Russian province, and it ripened through the years of uneasy peace between Finland and the Soviet Union following the Winter War and Continuation War, achieving its full fruition with the neo-imperialist kleptocracy of Putin. The Finns feel that if Putin succeeds in Ukraine, Finland will certainly be on his list of further conquests.

When the Soviets invaded Finland in 1939, a Finnish soldier was quoted as saying, "There are so many Russians, and our country is so small. Where will we find room to bury them all?" It might be apocryphal, but it captures the zeitgeist.
