I didn't know Hunter had just come out of an 11-day rehab when he bought the gun. That is a very good fact for Hunter. I agree with Shan Wu that Hunter's attorney (the very skilled Abbe Lowell) offered a really good counter argument that Hunter genuinely and reasonably believed he was not using drugs when he bought the gun. And also, Jack Weiss stating during his opening argument that Hunter Biden would not be there if he was "an ordinary drug addict" is kinda saying the quiet part out loud. The jury will see that Hunter was targeted because he was the President's son. And a juror crying during opening arguments can't be good for the prosecution!
