(24,902 posts)Sure, we've seen two well-qualified Democratic candidates lose to a terrible Republican opponent. And true, that could happen again. It's also a possibility that a male candidate might have lost to that opponent -- nobody really knows.
But when discussing well-qualified women as candidates, what are the reasons you hear when people disregard the possibility? I've heard these all my life:
"I personally have no problem voting for a woman, but other people do, so a woman can't win."
- and -
"I have no problem voting for a woman, but just not that woman."
There is a lot of work to do. The fact that this misogynist got into office twice and we're still talking about how many ways we can coddle men's feelings is, alone, a sign of a problem. I think we need to get at the root of it and go down fighting. Just my opinion.
