An Open-Minded Vision for a Broad Opposition Coalition [View all]

(Also posted to General Discussion)

Republican voters are realizing that after the leopards eat the faces of us “Libs,” they coming for their face too! This new enlightenment was brought about through the pain they feel themselves and realization of the humongous mistake they’ve made, and that has sparked some interesting conversations.

As reality sets in, do we let tRump supporters get off scot-free? Should we expect them to have remorse? And if not, do we offer up grace without remorse?

Also worth exploring, are Republican voters paying attention now, and if so, will they revert back to being gullible again? Examining the latter, it’s easy to see why the masses would be hesitant to roll out a red carpet. Could it be that the wedge that still lingers is a fundamental difference in our ethical beliefs?

Of course, the people are waking up to acknowledge that they no longer want to be part of the monolith. Collectively, we’ve seen everyday people online having their “come to Jesus” moment and admit they made a bad decision by voting for tRump. We’re hearing about MAGA’s losing jobs, businesses, contracts and money. In addition, they understand prices are going up.

But I wonder about the Republican voter who is still mincing words? Like the ones still not able to say out loud that the aim of Project 2025 is destructive. In the tRump administration, there have been numerous threats and plenty of political violence. During the insurrection, Capitol police were injured, and people died needlessly during poorly managed Covid-19. tRump is betraying his oath to the Constitution via his felonies, assault charges, corruption and criminality, broken laws and through his supported devastation and destruction of our U.S.

Does the tRump voter now fraught with buyers remorse truly understand the depths of tRump’s ill intent? And have they digested the importance of responsible reporting? And what happens when the storyline goes against their preconceived notions? Will they remain curious, or will they chant: “fake news”?

Many among us have written tRump supporters off because of their values and judgment. We found them to be so misguided and toxic, that we wanted them out of our lives. If they paid so little attention to Trump’s history and voted without doing candidate research, then they are low information voters. As such, this bloc read to us as irresponsible and not particularly civic-minded. We found these types to be gullible, selfish, racist, sexist and/or misogynist. ~ Get away. Period. Nada.

~ Duly noted. But not so fast! There are voters who feel that unity is the best way forward.

There are some Democratic and Progressive voters who are trying to compartmentalize; and embrace the right in the interest of oneness, and unity. Let’s face it, with the deck stacked so corruptly against us, we would be in a better position if we had additional voters on board to help us reject tRumpism. More than likely, we won’t be extending an invite to dinner afterward. And similarly, we will not be invited to break bread with them either. That’s okay. We don’t have to be BFF’s to be allies.

So DU’ers what do we think?
