Monday's Shadow and KC, or KC and Shadow, however you like 'em.

Okay ~ this week Shadow first. Next week, who knows?
She leads such an exciting life.

Asleep in her bed,

Out on the porch,

When friends stop by.

The occasion was a visit by Laurie's very good friend Karen and her two
Golden Retrievers. That's the elder, Ellie, above.
They were here to help work on Laurie's barn. Well, Karen was anyway.

The Goldens trotted off to explore.

Upon their return, Winnie was ready to play with Shadow.

Ellie was not. Which was alright. Ellie's not as active as her sister.

Speaking of whom ~
Winnie and Shadow had a blast.

Insofar as Karen and Laurie and the barn, that's a story for another time;
specifically, January 23rd in "Horses & Around The Farm Friday".

KC's "likes" ~
He likes to lie on the bed.

But KC also likes to relax with Mommy in her recliner.

Especially when her hand settles 'neath his chin.

He likes hanging out on the computer desk.

And when Daddy offers scritches.

Sometimes he peers at the screen, on which he is the "wallpaper"
surrounded by blue file folders. Does he see in color?

or black and white? (It's known that cats' night sight aided in the
invention of Night Vision Goggles for the military.)

At any rate KC seems to like the elevated view from his desktop.

Still he likes his (and Shadow's) living room bed best of all.

Thanks for stopping by. See ya next week.

Friday's Horses -- Kate's Story Pt. IV -- Conclusion

Kate and Laurie rode in many competitions, their pictures taken by professional photographers.

They loved to go on trail rides.
As part of a group,

photographed by friends,

or just putzing around the farm.

One summer Allan's mom visited and stayed for a week.
She and Kate became fast friends.

Kate used to love running with her half-sister Maddie.

She might peer at the sky while eating dinner.

Kate liked to "help" with mucking.

And didn't mind too much helping to celebrate Christmas.

Kate Did Not Like Restrictive Grazing — she was a
"Grazing-Muzzle Melancholy Baby".

Laurie liked to braid Kate's mane when riders visited the farm.

They invested many mostly happy hours training, communicating.

Kate was a spirited Paint mare.

She was fun to be around.

Kate lived nineteen years. One evening three years ago, Laurie found her rolling in her stall.
Suspecting an attack of colic, Laurie started walking her in the arena. She called the local
vet and arranged to transport Kate to the clinic. But the vet on duty could do nothing for Kate.
Laurie then drove her in the horse trailer 3 1/2 hours during a snowstorm to Washington State
University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Then and there it was determined that surgery for
colic was not an option and Kate was put to sleep.

She was one of a kind. Her spirit lives on.
