While he isn't mentioned very much as a possible contender, I think that Gov. Kemp from Georgia might end up as the GOP nominee.

(1,884 posts)The republican party really wanted to make a decisive break from their spineless off the rails weak trajectory they've been on for far too long, they should consider a Cheney/ Kinzinger ticket. Seems highly unlikely they have enough sense to do that.
That said, if they did a ticket of Cheney and Kinziger, it would really stand out because those two were obviously the only two to stand up to the wave of Trumpism lunacy that pervaded the party. They would have Cheney as the first woman president candidate backed up by Kinzinger who's got plenty of time to make his run down the road. This is of course a fantasy. We know the Republican party isn't gonna do anything like that, odds are.

(196,495 posts)His election to governor wasnt a fluke. He ran a great campaign while McAuliffe ran a horrible one. Still, he has been almost invisible here. I dont think people here would appreciate him basically bailing on his office.

(2,472 posts)if he wasn't running as a Dem stalking horse. I would bet he's kicking himself for not running as GOPer.

(2,585 posts)All these traditional Republican pundits thinking Trump wont be the nominee need to understand what their party has become. Unless Trump is in the ground, he will be their 2024 nominee. And until Trump is in the ground he will be the de facto leader of the Republican Party.
