Scientists raise concerns after first-of-its-kind weather event shakes Earth for 9 days: 'We are in uncharted waters'

What's happening?

According to The Guardian, a landslide in Greenland triggered a megatsunami that sent seismic waves throughout the world. The landslide was a result of Earth getting warmer. The glacier that originally supported a 1,200-meter mountain peak started to melt and could no longer hold it up. This caused the peak to collapse into the fjord below, resulting in massive waves that led to seismic waves on Earth's surface.

The "extraordinary event" was the first to be recorded in eastern Greenland and destroyed a two-century-old Inuit site. Though no one inhabits the area, this indicates that an event like this hasn't happened in a very long time. It was also a stroke of pure luck that cruise ships and visiting scientists had vacated the area a few weeks before, so nobody was injured.

"We are in uncharted waters scientifically, because we don't really know what a tsunami does to a cruise ship," Kristian Svennevig of the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland told The Guardian.

In fact, it took 68 scientists across 40 institutions in 15 different countries to uncover the mystery of the event by using data collected by various sensors all over the world. Since the discovery, the research has been published in Science.

We are irrelevant to nature until our actions lead to consequences that possibly will trigger our own demise.

The Earth Abides is also a pretty good post apocalyptic novel written in 1949.

After that, our increasingly hotter Sun will boil the oceans away. Earth, Venus AND Mercury get turned into a charcoal briquettes by our Red Giant sun before it goes Nova. Not supernova, mind you, Sol doesn't have enough mass to be a Super.

We might be able to live on one of the moons orbiting Saturn or Jupiter til then.

Current estimates suggest a heat sufficient to vaporize all liquid & solid water on earth to be 1.0-1.2 billion years.
It will become uninhabitable at a much lower temperature.
Could easily be half of a billion years. Probably no more than 700 million years.
85°C would kill 99.999% of living microbial life in 3 hours. But, we're talking thosands of millennia. Life has no chance.

And as of today, we in FL have another hurricane forming that looks like it’s going to follow the same path Helene just took—actually the THIRD in a row to take the same route to the Big Bend area of the state. (I figure it’s trying to flatten Tallahassee and will keep going until it can wipe out the science-denying goons in our fascist state govt…)

I’m reminded of the fermentation process wherein microorganisms (yeasts) consume sugars and excrete alcohol until toxic levels, which kills the microorganisms.

Man and his inventions are excreting too much CO2 and we will suffer the same fate.

That's an old Trump favorite.

Just over eight years ago, he tweeted this: “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.” In 2014, he penned this tweet: “It’s late in July and it is really cold outside in New York. Where the hell is GLOBAL WARMING??? We need some fast! It’s now CLIMATE CHANGE.”

By the way, "Where the hell is GLOBAL WARMING???" in Trump's tweet was misspelled (as usual); I have a screenshot. Trump's tweet actually read "Where the hell is GLOBAL WAMING???".

for reducing human population, human footprint and human energy use and resource consumption.

Our alleged "solutions" are money and power making opportunities that dig a deeper hole in a war between man and nature that is already lost. As a species and society, humanity lacks the capability, vision and leadership to seriously address the issue.

This is why I interpret the various increasing human conflicts as re-arranging the deck chairs as positioning for coming repeated shocks.

Sorry to be so negative.

Major reason why more wars over space and resources, wars with never used before arms.

Major human societies of the past collapsed for similar reasons but never with anything close to current human footprint and technology.
