*** There's been a seagull perching near the smokestaff. Not unusual. Comments have been, Pope Seagull, and for whatever "reason" Stephen Seagull.

(3,225 posts)...laity-based movements, in particular Opus Dei and the Napa Institute, which are completely hell-bent on getting another reactionary Pope. The far right of the Church is really throwing its weight around since the death of Pope Francis. I have watched a bit of EWTN (radtrad Catholic network) lately, and it's been nearly constant editorializing and sniping from them. As usual, it's all about "tradition" and "doctrine", 24 hours a day.

...the ones whining about "schism" and "apostasy" in the American Church. Groups like the Napa and Acton Institutes are really just far-right "think" tanks wearing Roman collars. And if they keep up their hell-bent propensity for tearing apart parishes and dioceses, they'll get the schism they fear, guaranteed. I've seen it happen, where a radtrad priest is forced on a progressive parish and causes utter destruction. It happened in the late '90s at the University of Minnesota, and more recently at UW-Madison. My understanding is that this is an actual strategy on their part.
