Kamala Harris has gained 23 points in a new poll, leaving her 9 points ahead of Donald Trump.
A poll questioning independents, carried out by NPRS/PBS News/Marist, found that 53 percent supported Harris and 44 percent backed Trump.
This 9-point lead is a huge jump from the 14 points she was down in Marist's July poll, which found 46 percent of independents for Trump and 32 percent for Harris.
The August survey, published on Tuesday, was carried out among 1,613 adults between August 1 and August 4 and has a disclaimed margin of error of +/- 3.4 percentage points. The July survey questioning 1,309 adults was carried out on July 22 and has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.

(1,217 posts)But I wonder why Newsweek chose the verb "overhauls" because I do not think it means what they think it means
Maybe ChaptGPT wrote the article.
"Overtakes" perhaps? Even "overwhelms" would make more sense!

To 'overhaul' someone in a race - not that uncommon at all.

(7,910 posts)It wasn't uncommon to say "I'm gonna overhaul that truck on the highway". People also say "Plug that up for me" when I would say "Plug that in for me". Regionalisms are funny.

(28,836 posts)Those were already public knowledge when the July poll was taken. The obvious difference between then and now is that Harris is now front-and-center, so more people are aware of her and what she stands for.

(28,836 posts)It's also exactly what we need to have translate to the swing states. If SS polls show similar gains, we'll be in excellent shape in November.

(6,670 posts)* that Harris/Walz is a winning team. Undecided voters (who, for whatever mysterious reason have no clue what's going on) will often choose who to support based on what others around them are doing. They want the "safe" choice and let others do their deciding for them. Everyone wants to support a WINNER!!
If Harris/Walz is viewed as a winning team (even if the polling org is less than stellar) then it benefits us to crow loudly about it as though the Clouds Above had parted ways and The Lord God had declared his preference.
