(28,836 posts)his supporters believe every word, even after he threw them under the bus.
For the GOP members of Congress, they're desperate to save their jobs, so they're just going to stick their fingers in their ears (almost literally), cover their eyes, and yell "la, la, la, can't hear you". At least that makes a morally-warped bit of sense.
I'm not sure what his supporters' excuse is. Cult behavior and brainwashing, of course, but this often seems to transcend even that.

(1,318 posts)sticking their fingers in their ears would ensure that their jobs will not be saved.

(196,863 posts)as the House managers are laying out as part of their case. Its not just the speech that day, how/why were all those people there? Trump, with help from his minions, conditioned them and then sent out the call to action. Bannon said the day before basically what was going to happen. Get them there and once one goes others will follow.

(10,861 posts)I don't believe Pendejo45 expects America to believe this BS, because he doesn't care if they believe it or not.
He has at least 34 (R) Senators that will vote against conviction.
As the Impeachment managers laid out with statements from the actual framers of the Constitution, in 100 years, when we vote in another despot into the Presidency, and one that is smarter and still gets impeached, they will be using this vote as precedent that whatever any future despot pResident does has been approved by this Senate.

(12,239 posts)A certain segment of the population was and is always going to believe him, and some appear they are, but through apathy and exhaustion, not conviction. Also, they are very god-damned loud, so their numbers seem larger, at times.
Having sitting members of the government - and very senior members, at that - go along with it is another step along the path to a failed democracy.

(8,060 posts)Trump's early message that he 'was on their side, and fighting for them' stuck with millions of Americans including a lot of GOP politicians, and it has become cemented into their belief system and behavior patters.
Not rational thinking, it requires a lot of facts to be selectively ignored.
Sad that some people - millions of them in fact - can get so mentally inflexible.
Internal dialog, self questioning one's beliefs? Not so much. In fact, nada, zip, zilch!

(34,195 posts)Trump told them that he would be walking with them to the Capitol.
But he went back to the White House and watched it on television.
Probably chowing down on some McDonald's and KFC while he watched the riots.o
Washing it all down with a cold diet Coke.
