differest. I thought something happened to him and it said flagged for review---whatever that means.
I edited my post and added 01 to the end.

(38,013 posts)Which means they've had 5 of their posts hidden by juries in the last 90 days. They're not banned, but can no longer post.
They can appeal their FFR status to the Admins.

I attached my post here with the attention-getting stars so it would be high up in the thread because a lot of people seem to be confusing the two.
Editing to add - a person's last post, which appears on their profile, is not necessarily the one that got a hide. It takes time for an alerter to alert on a "bad" post and for a jury to vote to hide it -- in the meantime the poster could have made several more posts that might all be completely fine, including the last post made. I think there's confusion on that in this thread too.

(23,694 posts)and Art Nouveau items are so beautiful!
I hope the committee lets him post again.
Who would hide that wonderful art?

(46,155 posts)They explained DUs rules about hides. That is in DUs Terms of Service.
Winetourdriver can go to the admins and ask them to investigate and reverse the decision.
I have appealed a few hides where the alerter seemed to misunderstand me. So I appealed the jury decisions, admins investigated and agreed to un-do the posts.

(6,672 posts)I don't know the details, but if people hid him because they didn't like the subject matter (mostly art), admins need to look into it.
Deuxcents
(26,915 posts)Is there a vindictive or upset person not appreciating his art pictures? I just cant think of anything.

(156,619 posts)Most likely EarlG implemented this FFR. Again, FFR is done by the administrators!
Anyone with 5 posts hidden over a span of weeks will be FFR'd.
Them's the rules, folks.
I hope he is allowed to return as well.
Read Post #10 by emulatorloo. You'll find a complete explanation of FFR there.

(60,612 posts)copyright. But isn't there a period where the copyright runs out and it is in the public domain?

(12,975 posts)The admins are notified and then take whatever action or inaction they choose.
Edited to add: This doesn't contradict anything gp6971 has posted above, although gp6971 doesn't specify exactly that its an automatic software thing.

Here's my message to Ask the Administrators:
Please open this link on winetourdriver's flag for review. It seems that a significant number of DU'ers look forward to winetourdriver's posts, and would like to see this member's posts continue. I'm writing this in support of winetourdriver.

By the way for anyone reading this -- several messages in this thread easily violate the Terms of Service re: Forum Moderation.
From the Terms of Service link at the bottom of every DU page for a reason
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=termsofservice
Don't post messages about site rules, enforcement, juries, hosts, administration, alerts, alerters, removed posts, appeals, locked threads, or anything else related to how this website is moderated (except in the Ask the Administrators forum).
Why we have this rule: The purpose of Democratic Underground is to discuss politics, issues, and current events. Open discussion of how the website is run tends to distract from our core purpose.
Yup, even posting the rules is technically in violation.

(30,179 posts)You have no idea whats going on behind the scenes. Not saying this is true of winetourdriver, but Ive seen things while moderating like seemingly sane posters who send threatening dms to other members, trolls building up post counts by posting benign content to give their accounts cred before spreading RW talking points, and so many sock puppet accounts. It could just be a misunderstanding, but in my experience, FFR is usually justified.
tl;dr: MAGAts can also love antiques.

(113,957 posts)Admins, yes. Hosts in the small independent groups and with limited authority in the main forums, yes. And MIRT only has authority over those with less than 100 posts. Yes, the new posters are where (most) intentional trolling starts but does not end. Admins and juries (and hosts in the small independent groups) have the principal role for the rest.
What typically gets non-troll newbies is a passionate argument, since they can have multiple hides in a single thread in the heat of the moment. I think FFR (flagged for review) is designed to look at those cases rather than immediately result in a permanent ban (PPR).
While this very thread is likely to be locked for reasons related to interference with the system, and I remember the free-for-all "hellscape" that frequented the time when we had a forum dedicated to such discussion (Meta), I wish we could find a middle ground to ask about suddenly "missing" members that might have been the subject/victim of collective misunderstanding--however rare that really is.

(30,179 posts)Its a different kind of moderating than the free for all days, but its still a form of moderating. It still gives one a taste of what DU can look like behind the scenes. I admit that my eyebrows raised over this particular poster due to their frequent flood of one-image posts with no commentary, though of course, they could just have poor nettiquette skills. But it doesnt surprise me to learn they are FFRd. And, yeah, a mechanism to ask these questions without them devolving into acrimony would be great if we could just figure out how to do it.
