The UK does not have a clear emergency succession plan for its prime minister

In an emergency, like the one the UK is facing right now, the baton would most likely be passed first to one of the three most senior government ministers: the chancellor (finance minister), home secretary, or foreign secretary. But there is no unequivocal written rule that states which of those three would take charge.

It should go to Stannis Baratheon.

In these times, a good leader would ask just one simple question to his advisors.

"What do I have to do to save as many lives as possible and prevent people from getting this disease?"

All decisions and new policies would grow from the answers to that question. Each day from the podium in the White would be updates on those answers. This is how you would know that you have a good leader.

What we're getting instead is a man who only cares about his re-election chances, his approval ratings, and spinning a favorable narrative that the right wing media can run with.

The media has to stop covering Trump's press conferences entirely.

Give the air time to the state governors some of whom are actually giving out important information and safety tips.

Trump is desperately grasping for a narrative, any narrative that makes him look like a hero.

Cuomo gives important information and details that have literally saved lives while Trump...

is desperately grasping for whatever positive headline/talking point that he can find which often leads him to give out false information.

NYC State of Emergency : Park Avenue from 34th Street to Upper East Side (March 28, 2020)

This guy has a channel where he films walking tours of NYC. For this one, he's driving up Park Avenue. The only time I've seen this part of NYC abandoned like this was in the Will Smith film, "I am Legend".

The coming presidential election this fall is not a referendum on Trump.

Nor is it a referendum on Biden.

It's a referendum on all of us as Americans.

Who are we collectively? Who are we as a nation? Now, I understand that it's not a popular vote contest. However, that's still not an excuse. If enough states do indeed provide Trump with the electoral votes that he needs, then we have to accept who we are as a nation. We can't say, "well, I live in blue state...", like that makes a difference. That's akin to saying, "well, I don't live in a slave state, so that's no reflection on me".

If this nation puts Trump back into office after this, that's a very devastating statement about this nation and its people.

Biden can win the presidency without 100% of Bernie's supporters

It does not matter that Biden won't get 100% of Bernie's supporters because he doesn't need them to win the presidency. Biden's path to the presidency was African American supporters, suburban White women, and college educated White people, and that was before the virus shut down the nation. After this virus, Biden will be able to expand his support even further tp non-college educated Whites as well.

The "Bernie or bust" people are small in numbers and don't live in those parts of the country that can tip the election. There's simply not enough of them in Macomb county MI or Sandusky county, OH to swing the election. In fact, appeasing them too much may actually hurt Biden's overall chances with other groups.

This election will be a referendum on the character of this nation. No matter what people think of Biden, the alternative is a living nightmare of dystopian proportions. If this country put this asshole back in power, it's not worth living in.

Should, or can, the government demand that all mortgages/rents cease for the next 3 months?

Is this something that should be done, or even can be, done?

Trump is searching for a favorable narrative instead of leading through this crisis.

Like a stand up comic, he uses these daily briefings to workshop his material. He's trotted out one failed favorable narrative after another. Downplay it. Then say it's just like the flu. Blame Obama. Say it will wash over. The cure is worse than the disease. Call it the Chinese virus. We will open for Easter, and it will be beautiful. Blame Obama. Blame impeachment. Blame hospitals. Blame the states. Change topics by talking about the drug war.

Every day is a search for some narrative that will boost his election prospects instead of doing the work to lead the country. Every speaker has to praise him profusely instead of giving Americans the basic facts that they have to follow to protect themselve. Things like demand all states to issue shelter in place laws. Suspend all debt payments for 90 days which will include rents. Force companies to produce ventilators and protective equipment.

We are literally on our own through this crisis. If we even manage to get to the fall election, and if this country votes this clown back into office after this, I cannot live in this country.
