The Democratic Party should wash its hands of Donald Trump?
Let the news media report on him. Let SNL mock him. Let the Justice Department investigate and let the Courts prosecute. But, above all else, let the Republican Party deal with him. They own him and he is now their problem. The Democratic Party has already spent far too much time on this sociopathic narcissist. The Democratic Party should spend all of its energies on America's other problems.
Just my opinion.
The fear was palpable.
Perhaps if it had been a secret ballot, the vote would have been different?
But you could almost feel their fear.
The fear of being primaried. The fear of being verbally attacked by Donald Trump. The fear of being physically attacked by Trump supporters.
They knew he was guilty. But they simply could not overcome their fears.
Within a week, or sooner, Mr Trump will likely announce his next rally? Perhaps it will be in Arizona? Perhaps in Wisconsin? Perhaps in Florida? But, he will let everyone know that he is back in the game.
A drowning man will cling to a straw.
Three things cannot long be hidden...
The truth will eventually come out and it won't be pretty.
Republicans are already working on their excuse. They always have an excuse. At least, enough of one to convince their devout followers.
They will say that the Democrats rushed thru the trial before all the facts were known. They could have asked for witnesses. They could have pursued other leads but they did not. It's not their fault. It's the Democrats fault that the information did not come out at the trial.
This is their modus operandi.
Democrats will argue that there was too much important and critical work to be done to get bogged down in a long impeachment trial. Anyway, it wouldn't matter because Republicans had already made up their minds.
When the truth comes out, and it will, both sides will blame each other.
The Scorpion and the Frog
https://aesopfables.com/cgi/aesop1.cgi?4&TheScorpionandtheFrogThe Capitol was like the Alamo to our Capitol Police.
They were totally outnumbered and were looking at a massacre.
They are heroes, in my opinion.
With the passing of a few days, we can see the duress they were under and the heroic nature of their acts.
Goodman was only one of many.
They were engulfed in hand-to-hand combat.
Another Big Lie to cover up the Big Lie
The Big Lie was to "Stop the Steal". The election was stolen. It was a fraud.
Then, he summoned his most violent followers to Washington and they attacked our Capitol and attempted to stop the count of the Electoral votes by the US Senate.
Now, they have another Big Lie to cover up all the others.
Trump told them to be peaceful. He never told them to attack the Capitol. He was just practicing his right to free speech. The insurrectionists acted on their own. Donald Trump is innocent of all those charges.
That is the Big Lie to cover up the first Big Lie.
Republicans want "unity" but not on holding Trump accountable for inciting an insurrection...
....but everything else, they are ready for "unity".
Sorry, homey can't play that game.
If they cannot unify to protect our Capitol and our Constitution, there is nothing left to unify with them upon. They have disqualified themselves from serious discussion.
That's just the way it has to be. They are making the decision.
Before the Democrats "close their argument" in the trial...
...I would like to see them put forth videos of every Senator (Juror) that supported Trump's Big Lie about the election being stolen.
I suppose there might be quite a few of them?
Then they should request that they recuse themselves from the jury. It is not possible for them to make a "fair and impartial" judgement. Of course, none of them would do that.
But, it would be a public service to show these traitors that were complicit in the insurrection.
I realize this would likely accomplish very little, but it would shine a spotlight on the traitors and give their voters something to think about.
