They are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected and is frequently humorous. (Winston Churchill loved them).

2. The last thing I want to do is hurt you ...but it's still on my list.
3. Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
4. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.
5. We never really grow up -- we only learn how to act in public.
6. War does not determine who is right, only who is left.
7. Knowledge, is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
8. To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.
9. I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
10. In filling out an application, where it says, "In case of an emergency, notify..." I answered "a doctor."

Hunter Thompson quote:
"Coming of age in a fascist police state will not be a barrel of fun for anybody, much less for people like
me, who are not inclined to suffer Nazis gladly and feel only contempt for the cowardly flag-suckers
who would gladly give up their outdated freedom to live for the mess of pottage they have been
conned into believing will be freedom from fear."

January 6th, ten weeks later, it is still a day of shame.
They came to Washington by the thousands. They could have all been carrying torches and going to the hanging.
They were not "law-abiding" citizens. They were not "patriots". They were a violent mob.
What they did was shameful.
But, many of them now argue that they left after the rally. They did not go to the Capitol. They did not participate in the violence.
However, they did carry the torch to Washington. They may not have carried the rope for the hanging? And they may not have made the trip to the hanging tree? But they are not free from responsibility.
January 6th was a day of infamy. It should never be forgotten. Perhaps it should be a day of remembrance? A Day for Democracy?
Because on that day, democracy did win. The violent mob lost.
We need to resolve that this is what happened.
It is important that we put January 6th in its proper perspective.
The truth is an "iceberg".
It is not a mountain.
It is not a cloud.
It is not an illusion.
It is real.
To deny the truth is to go off in an unknown direction. What is unknown cannot be predicted.
It can lead to wild beasts and treacherous terrain.
It can lead to death.
There is a reason that truth is important to individuals, as well as societies.
It is a matter of survival.

How serious an offense is attacking our Capitol as the Electoral Votes are being certified?
Or, as Ron Johnson noted, was it just a "protest"?
Was it done by God-fearing, America-loving, law-abiding citizens, as he has stated?
Or is Mr Johnson just trying to minimize his role in the seditious act?
How serious are these charges?
It's A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall
This is a classic! It will always be a hit!
Republicans are creating a "Big Lie" to cover their criminality.
They are continuing to stand behind the lie that Joe Biden did not fairly win the last election and that he is not the legitimate President. They know it is a lie. Yet, they made their decision when they chose to not certify Joe Biden in the Electoral College, and they are standing behind it.
Because the election was not "legitimate", it gives them the excuse to stand behind the insurrectionists, whom they call patriots, and defend the attack on our Capitol, at least in private.
They can say that President Trump was only practicing "free speech" and did not incite those folks to march on, and attack, our nation's Capitol.
They are building the Big Lie as they go.
