Most Democrats do not support socialism but rather a "people's capitalism"

Most Americans are not that different from other people that live in Democratic Socialist countries. They want a more fair capitalism. They want a less exploitive capitalism. They want a capitalism that builds a better society.

Capitalism is distorted when individuals are permitted to accumulate $80-100 billion dollars as the needs of our people go unattended. For example, as this wealth is gathered into the hands of a few, the people are unable to get the healthcare they need or enough money from their labor to meet their basic needs. That is not the capitalism that the majority of America supports.

But that does not mean these folks are "socialists". They support a capitalism that is more attentive to the social needs of our society. Some attempt to stigmatize them as anti-capitalist. In reality, and Democrats are included, they believe more in a "people's capitalism".

Republicans are attempting to brand Democrats as "Socialists" because they see a political advantage. Democrats need to brand themselves.

The worst fears about Trump have arrived.

From the beginning, people have wondered how he would react if there was a "real" crisis?

Now, with the shoot-down of one of America's most expensive and most sophisticated drones, it appears that time may have arrived?

As quoted from Roll Call: “In light of the targeting of an unmanned U.S. drone by Iran, it is essential that we remain fully engaged with our allies, recognize that we are not dealing with a responsible adversary and do everything in our power to de-escalate,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said in a statement after the meeting. “This is a dangerous, high-tension situation that requires a strong, smart and strategic, not reckless, approach.”

Chuck Schumer is attempting to get Mitch McConnell to have a vote next week to require Congressional approval for any war efforts against Iran.

So the situation has changed. Realpolitiks has replaced reality TV. And people are not comfortable with Donald Trump as the Commander-in-Chief at this moment.

Schumer pushes for vote to make clear Trump needs congressional approval for Iran War

https://www.rollcall.com/news/schumer-pushes-vote-make-clear-trump-needs-congressional-approval-iran-war

<snip>
The New York Democrat highlighted an amendment that has been filed to the fiscal 2020 defense policy bill led by Sens. Tom Udall, D-N.M., and Tim Kaine, D-Va. The Senate is expected to proceed to the Pentagon legislation Monday evening.

“We told the room that the Democratic position is that congressional approval must be required before funding any conflict in Iran,” Schumer said. “One of the best ways to avoid bumbling into war, a war that nobody wants, is to have a robust, open debate, and for Congress to have a real say.”

Schumer said the lesson should be learned from the broad authorization granted for military action against Iraq during the George W. Bush presidency.

“We have an amendment, supported by every Democrat, to the NDAA in the Senate. It’s led by Sen. Udall. It would require congressional approval of any funding for a conflict in Iran. It’s supported by all of us,” Schumer said. “We are asking Leader McConnell to do the right thing and give us a vote next week on the NDAA on that amendment.”

When reality TV runs into real-world reality...

It doesn't fit the narrative.

Bullshit doesn't work.

Difficult decisions have to be made.

There are real-world consequences.

PR doesn't work so well when lives are on the line.

Little mosquito asses can't pull the weight of big alligator mouths.

People die in the real world.

Looking back at the Mueller investigation

Was it two years well spent?

Or did it only prolong the inevitable task of ridding ourselves of an ill-equipped, probably criminal, Commander-in-Chief?

Would the time have been better spent if the Congress had done the investigating? Mueller gave them a couple of years to sit back and do little, in retrospect?

In my opinion, once we get an operating Congress, they should re-examine the "Special Counsel Law".

I don't see a lot of benefit from the Special Counsel Law thus far, although it did take a partisan issue and hide it from the full public for an entire election cycle.

Just my opinion.

Pelosi is not doing the Republicans any favors...

As much as many Democrats want her to push for impeachment of Donald Trump, many Republicans want it even more. They believe it would be to their political advantage.

Republicans understand that they are walking on very shaky ground. They are living in political chaos, with nothing being predictable except the unpredictability of Donald Trump.

They fear that something will happen, or be exposed, before the next election. They were lucky to get thru the first two years of the Trump Administration, even though they experienced a thorough beating in the last election cycle.

They bask in the glow from Trump's base. Because they understand that they have no chance to remain in power without the support of Trump's base. But if it is below 45% of Republican votes, it could spell big trouble for them in the next election?

In the next election, in my opinion, the people are not looking for any big promises from politicians. They are looking for stability. They are looking for consistency. They are looking for law and order from our institutions. They are not asking for much...
